Managing your Friends list and your Blacklist
|
In this section: Your Friends list Importing Friends Your Blacklist |
Fix My Inbox allows you to maintain two lists that affect how the program will classify the emails it scans.
Your Friends list
The Friends list is where you list the names or email addresses of your friends and acquaintances from whom you always want to receive email, regardless of content.
- Click Settings on the main menu, then click Friends to view and maintain your Friends list.
You can also add a word in the Name field with no address, to allow all mail containing that word. If an address is given, the name field is ignored, but useful for your reference.
Importing Friends
For convenience, you can import a list of friends from your email program. From the Friends page, click the Import button to open the "Import Friends" page and start the Import Wizard.
Import Wizard button
On the "Import Friends" page, select the email program and folder you would like to import from. Click Next, then tick or un-tick the addresses as required and click Finish to import them into your Friends list.
Note: If you are importing from a recent version of Microsoft Outlook,
you may receive a pop-up warning similar to this:
![]() This should not be a cause for concern as it is a result of your Microsoft Outlook security settings. Simply tick the box labeled "Allow access for 1 minute" and click the Yes button. |
Your Blacklist
The blacklist list is where you list the names or email addresses of people or organizations from whom you never want to receive email, regardless of content.
- Click Settings on the main menu, and then click Blacklist to view and maintain your Blacklist.
You can also add a word in the Name field with no address, to delete all mail containing that word. If an address is given, the name field is ignored, but useful for your reference.
Appropriate use of blacklist
There are a few things to consider before adding an entry to your Blacklist.
- It is quite common for the authors of spam to forge the origin of their messages, and to use a different address for each message. It is therefore suggested that only addresses that you are reasonably sure are legitimate are added to the Blacklist.
- Fix My Inbox automatically blocks emails containing many known undesirable words and scams. It is usually unnecessary to add too many of your own.
- If you receive a spam or scam email that you think should have been blocked by Fix My Inbox but wasn't, consider forwarding it to us at spam@fixmyinbox.com and we'll do what we can to include an automatic block in our next program update.
